Is Apple deliberately slowing down phones?

Everyone has heard of Apple, one of the top leading tech companies in its industry. In December, Apple were sued over slowing down their IPhones, which caused an outrage on Social Medias and the World Wide Web. Apple confessed later on and apologised, but does this make it okay? Are they still in the wrong? When Apple confessed and apologised to their customers, they claimed that it was linked with their batteries aging, which causes their phones to slow down.
